Elon Musk Quashes Dogecoin's Role in US Government Efficiency Initiative
Elon Musk has definitively ruled out any involvement of Dogecoin (DOGE) in the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), dashing hopes for the memecoin's integration into the initiative. At an America PAC town hall in Wisconsin, Musk stated unequivocally, "There are no plans for the government to use Dogecoin or anything else."
This declaration follows weeks of speculation fueled by the temporary appearance of a Dogecoin logo on the official DOGE website after Donald Trump's inauguration. This led many to believe DOGE might be incorporated into the initiative.
Musk clarified his choice of name for the initiative, explaining, "I was going to call it the Government Efficiency Commission, but that's a boring name. Then the internet said it should be the Government Efficiency Commission. I said, the internet was right."
Following Musk's announcement, DOGE prices experienced a 3.5% dip, mirroring broader market trends. Despite the lack of official Dogecoin integration, months of speculation surrounding its potential involvement had driven a rally in DOGE prices and inspired numerous copycat tokens.
The DOGE initiative, aiming to streamline government spending and boost efficiency, reportedly saved $130 billion since its January 2025 launch, translating to an average saving of $840 per taxpayer.
Although Dogecoin's direct involvement is off the table, Musk's ongoing public support for DOGE has historically impacted its price. This leaves the memecoin's future trajectory in both politics and finance uncertain.
