During the 1500s, The British, Spanish & Dutch colonised much of the Caribbean and, as well as fighting pirates, fought each other. In this mission, we play as the Britsh, leading Sir Francis Drake across several islands of Spanish rule. Our objective is too raid and plunder the spanish colonies. Along the way we will uncover a few secondary objectives too. Starting off is a bit tough as we have only our navy, comprising of only one real war-ready ship - our Galleon. The other four Caravels lack in strength and armour but do make sure in their numbers. We have a small band of British soldiers in our Galleon so we really don't want to lose them all by it sinking. As we have no real idea of the map, it is a bit of a guessing game where to go first. The first thing I do is to change my attack stance so that all the vessels are tightly bunched together. I use this stance for the entirity of the mission as I find it keeps my fleet smaller and less likely to be spotted, as well as a strong firing line against enemy ships when entering battle. To the north we find some small islands with a treasure and some local bandits who join our cause. Dealing with a few caravels is necessary but what I really want to do is to avoid the majority of fighting for now and get up to the northern ally harbour. This is so that I can repair my ships regularly as they take damage. My goal is to engage in short sharp naval battles and retreat to repair my ships. It is really valuable to set your Caravels on the Whale to bring in coin, as you will note that some of our most valuable home shipments cost coin. Just north of the ally harbour is a well guarded trasure but really important as it is worth a full home shipment. By seeting Sir Drake to attack the treasure guardians first, they all focus on him whilst my band of soldiers deals out damage to them all. This way, I gain a home shipment without losing any soldiers. Make sure to re-position your home shipment bouy next to your new harbour. A quick visit over to the central island offers us another treasure as well some more bandits and, particularly important, a Privateer to join our growing navy. Be careful when sending it round the top of the island as a Caravel is waiting. Pincer the Caravel from both sides. We now have a much stronger position compared to our starting point. We have a much larger navy with two Galleons, two Privateers and four Caravels. We also have upgraded the attack and hitpoints of our vessels at the harbour and used two improved attack/range home shipments. Our navy is now ready to take on any Spanish warships we come across. A perfect example are the first three ships we come across -1 Galleon and 2 Caravels. We take them on and destroy them in seconds with no casualties at all. now we can venture round to the first Spanish Colony and start poking damage. Notice how I pull my fleet back a bit when I find enemy ships, in order to draw them out to me, I then turn and fire on them a thick wall cannonballs. It allows me to fire with two lines of ships and make sure than none are sitting useless at the back. I also use my soldiers to lure out the enemy soldiers into range of my ships, so that I limit my hand-to-hand battles as much as I can. Seeing as my navy is so strong now, I want to use it to full advantage in all fights. When a colony has been defeated, by killing all Spanish soliders in the area, it is still best to completely destroy the colony anyway. This maximises out XP and gives us the most amount of home shipments, allowing us to keep adding ships and bonuses to our Navy and small army. It is a bit of a slow start to the mission but that bit of patients and planning means that the enitre mission goes much smoother and you loose hardly any ships throughout. On the central Island, you don't need to lose tropos by attacking the outpost, just lure them all out and kill them all and the outpost will fall. Then go in and destroy everything for the XP. The third colony is very easy to bombard with our navy as it is a small island. Be sure to destroy the local ships first and then fire on the land-locked soldiers. Meanwhile Sir Drake is collecting the nearby treasure. Working down to the southern ally gives us two more Privateers to boost our navy incase of any losses, as well as the chance to reapir any ships that need it. Home shipments have led to us having a secondary smaller navy that can now hunt out enemy ships too, slowly cleaning up these Caribbean waters. The last colony is the most difficult to defeat as it has the most amount of enemy soldiers. Best to leave this one for last. It is also hardest to use your navy becuase of the Great Cannon, so use all the soldiers you have gathered as well as a force of musketeers from the Barracks. Musketeers can be upgraded at the barracks and with a home shipment. It is important to use the Mortar that is found at the very south, to destroy the outpost and the gate.
