Royal Mint unveils 'Lord of the Rings' 50 pence coin to mark film's 25th anniversary Britain's Royal Mint, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP), unveiled on Wednesday a new "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" 50 pence coin to mark the 2001 film's 25th anniversary. The coin's design centers on the 'One Ring' from filmmaker Peter Jackson's Academy Award-winning film, which is the source of power behind the whole fantasy saga created by author J. R. R. Tolkien. The 50 pence coin, which goes on sale on Wednesday from £15 (roughly $20), is the first of seven planned in a collection to celebrate each 25th anniversary respectively of all three "Lord of the Rings" films, including "The Two Towers" (2002) and "The Return of the King" (2003), across the next three years.
