It has been over a year since we last looked at Venice, and a lot has happened while we were off exploring other corners of the market. You asked for an update, so here it is, and this one sits right at the intersection we keep coming back to, where AI stops being a separate story from crypto and the two start needing each other. The reason Venice is worth the attention is simple. It actually works as a business. This is not a whitepaper promising a future. It is a private AI product with real users and real revenue, integrating frontier models rather than trying to reinvent them, and quietly reaching the kind of product-market fit most tokens never come close to. That leads us into the argument we find hardest to shake. For twenty-five years the best companies stayed private, and the people who could buy in were a small, accredited few. Buy a token today and you have liquidity immediately. Buy equity in a private company and you are locked into something illiquid with indirect exposure at best. We look at the OpenAI IPO chatter, the strange details around it, and why so much value now forms behind a wall most people will never get through. Crypto rails are the first thing we have seen that credibly reopen that door. Then we get honest about our own side of the table. It is 2026, we have hundreds of thousands of data points, and on a five-year horizon most of what crypto shipped is down ninety percent or worse. At some point you have to be willing to say a model is finished and ask what actually deserves to replace it. That is the real question under this whole conversation. Do tokens represent equity, or a claim on something more useful than equity ever was? Venice's design is where it gets genuinely interesting. We walk through the $VVV token, the $DIEM token, and the compute mechanics underneath. How inference credits map to real compute that has to be purchased from real providers, why that turns a token into an actual expense on a real balance sheet, and how the whole thing complexifies the longer the experiment runs. It is messy, but it is messy the way real markets are messy, not the way vaporware is. What we keep circling back to is the shape of what is forming. Permissionless markets built around a brand-new commodity, compute, with real people paying for real output. That combination of genuine revenue, genuine usage, and open rails around it is the version of this industry we would actually want to defend. If crypto goes mainstream again, we do not think it arrives as another cycle of narratives. We think it arrives quietly, as the plumbing underneath things people were already going to pay for.
