Dogecoin, the popular dog-themed cryptocurrency, is on the brink of launching a significant core upgrade, Dogecoin Core 1.14.7, which promises to enhance its performance and usability. This update, packed with bug fixes and security improvements, is nearing its final phase, as announced by Dogecoin developer Patrick Lodder. Lodder's post on X (formerly Twitter) indicated that the release plan for Dogecoin Core 1.14.7 is in its last stage, with a focus on finalizing the upgrade.

Another Dogecoin developer, Inevitable 360, shared progress on the upgrade, revealing that it is 97% complete. This development builds excitement within the Dogecoin community, particularly as the 1.21 release, targeted for a major core upgrade over the past three years, is also in sight.

Lodder explained in a Dogecoin forum that the 1.14.7 upgrade aims to facilitate an easy transition to the forthcoming 1.15 version, while allowing developers to concentrate on more critical tasks.

Earlier in February, the release of Libdogecoin 0.1.3 marked a significant step in Dogecoin's development, introducing new features, including Android support, as a result of extensive testing and contributions from the community.

Looking ahead to 2024, Dogecoin plans to expand Libdogecoin, its core C library, with Python and Go language bindings and explore additional functionalities. GigaWallet, a key backend service for Dogecoin businesses, aims to enhance shopping cart integration and provide more user-friendly APIs.

The Dogecoin Foundation is setting its sights on improving current projects, launching new initiatives like DogeBox, and boosting team and community engagement in the coming year.
