埃隆·马斯克(Elon Musk

Elon Musk has rejected speculation that he might be able to get the U.S. government to adopt Dogecoin cryptocurrency.

Speaking during a town hall meeting reported in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Musk addressed rumors about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative he's leading for the Trump administration.

Appearing at an America PAC event Sunday, Musk said he wasn't aware of any government plans to use Dogecoin or any other crypto as part of his work.

This speculation arose due to the acronym of the department, which is known for its initiative to streamline and reduce the cost of government operations.

The chosen name reflects its actual mission: pursuing significant cost-cutting and operational streamlining within the federal government.

The project, launched earlier by U.S. President Trump, aims to reduce overall federal spending and improve government performance.

Musk set a public target of improving government efficiency by at least 15%. He stressed the initiative focuses solely on achieving that specific operational improvement goal.

What Actions Has the DOGE Initiative Taken?

The initiative, which includes a team of engineers and entrepreneurs brought in by Musk, has already spurred changes in federal operations, according to reports.

Key actions cited include massive layoffs announced across some federal departments and efforts to eliminate perceived inefficiencies or redundant spending programs.

One specific target mentioned by Musk was the federal employee credit card system.

Musk said his team discovered that about 4.6 million active government credit cards had been issued, despite the federal workforce comprising only about 2.3 to 2.4 million employees.

He publicly called this surplus “absurd” and pushed for immediate corrective actions, including card cancellations and system reforms.

When Will Musk’s Government Role End?

The billionaire plans to step down from leading the initiative once a target of $1 trillion in federal deficit reduction is achieved through the group's implemented efficiency measures, he told Fox News in a recent interview.

He projected that this process of identifying and implementing cost-cutting measures might take about 130 days in total.

Musk stated that he expects to conclude his direct involvement with the initiative possibly by the end of May 2025.

Musk's high-profile government role has drawn some public criticism, reportedly including instances of vandalism targeting Tesla locations.

However, Musk himself described the government efficiency effort as potentially "a revolution" that could create lasting structural improvements for U.S. government finances if successful.
