This one was recently added to the gauntlets. The Acid Gauntlet to be exact. I would say this is easily the weakest in the Acid Gauntlet for a few reasons. Problem number one, the level is immutably slow and doesn’t want to energize itself with the music. Problem number two, the last robot and cube can be quite frustrating due to how small the platforms are, and having such little space you can grasp. And problem number three, the level does not sync, like at all. I don’t see any instances of clicks lining up with the rhythm or anything like that. Absolute Garbage had gameplay that felt so alive due to how well synced it was, really paying respect to the song. This gameplay feels dead. Like it just doesn’t want to do anything interesting, it’s just there. Oh yeah, and dumb coins as well. Except the first, that coin is interesting at least. But the second is annoying to get, and the third is the dumbest one of them all. You could just skip the top gameplay by clicking a blue orb really late and just following the normal route. This coin sucks, I don’t like it. Granted, it’s not the worst thing in the world, it doesn’t flow horribly and I like that it has indicators, but it’s just boring. It’s somewhat interesting when you have this smasher gimmick and you have to feel the timing of the platforms, but that’s about it. This gameplay is just overall very subpar. And I think this may be a strong contender for weakest gameplay in a gauntlet from 2.2. I would say that Perpetual Motion has the same case as well. The only reason it’s included in cool non demons is because it’s with the whole package. Otherwise, wow, that level’s gameplay is not good. But back to this one, I really like the visuals at least. The pixel blocks and layering look really good, I like the title screen a lot, the green tinted windows that show a city full of toxic gas are insanely cool, the lighting is fantastic, the technology is so detailed and excellent to look at, I love how you splash through acid falls and you feel the acid on you, great acid usage, and I would say the shaders are pretty tasteful and work really well. Other than the cool visuals, I can’t really say I’m a fan of this one. It needs a lot more work done to be interesting. That said, as much as I didn’t like Necrus that much, I really like the Acid Gauntlet. Savage Sewer wasn’t great, but it had some solid potential with the good sync and the deco is well executed. I never quite got the hate for Sewer Showdown, I thought that one was great. Not perfect, but had some really good sync that makes it way better than a lot of players say it is. SOREVILLE and Absolute Garbage are the real bangers. They have such gorgeous visuals with SOREVILLE nailing the cartoony aesthetic so well, and Absolute Garbage having some of the best movements, artwork, colors, and theming I’ve ever seen. Plus, both of them had fantastic gameplay. Yeah, this is just a solid gauntlet. Song: Hellgrammite by ThorrMusic
